Today in the morning, I ate my cereal, and then I headed to school. I also did some math and reading to stay on top of things. After that, we got to the really cool stuff: I learned about all the different kinds of microscopes. There was the scanning electron microscope (which uses a beam of electrons instead of light, so it can zoom in super close and show incredible surface detail), the optical microscope (which uses regular light, like the ones we’ve been using in class), and a whole bunch more.
Then we did an awesome experiment. We painted a layer of nail polish onto a leaf to make a mold of its surface, let it dry, and then used tape to peel the mold right off. When I looked at it under the microscope, I could actually see the individual cells of the leaf! I even spotted a cool pattern in the cells that I decided to nickname the “freezing blankets,” because that’s what it reminded me of. This kind of leaf impression is a neat way to see plant cells and the tiny pores (called stomata) that leaves use to breathe.
After that, we were about to head to Sky Zone, but we noticed it was getting cloudy. We checked the weather forecast, and sure enough, it said it was going to rain. So instead, we went home and kept working on math for about three hours. About an hour in, a loud alarm went off — buzz, buzz, buzz! At first I thought my mom had set a timer, but then we saw it was a flash flood warning. A few seconds later, my watch buzzed with the same alert.
We kept going with our math anyway. Now, I like to double-check the weather instead of just trusting the first thing I see — I think it’s smart to look at more than one source before deciding what’s really going on. Based on where exactly we were, I figured we’d probably just get heavy rain rather than an actual flood. Sure enough, as we were finishing up, we got another flash flood warning, but the alert said it would be over by 8:15, and by then it was already 7:53. So I figured it wasn’t going to be a big deal for us anytime soon.
After all that, we got ready to relax. We watched the movie Castle in the Sky, and then I listened to some Percy Jackson before bed. Oh, and one more funny thing: my brother called me a “big fat idiot” today, so I pulled out a reverse card (like in Uno) and “reversed” it right back at him! Classic. And that was my day.

接着，我们做了一个特别棒的实验。我们在一片叶子上刷了一层指甲油，给它的表面做出一个印模，等它干了，再用胶带把印模揭下来。当我把它放到显微镜下看时，我竟然能看到叶子一个个的细胞！我甚至还发现细胞排成了一种很酷的图案，我决定给它起个外号叫”冰冻毯子（freezing blankets）”，因为它让我想到了那个。这种叶片印痕，是观察植物细胞、还有叶子用来”呼吸”的那些小孔（叫气孔 stomata）的一个很妙的办法。
之后，我们正打算去 Sky Zone，却发现天渐渐阴了下来。我们查了天气预报，果然，说是要下雨。于是我们改成回家，又继续做了大约三个小时的数学。大约做了一个小时，一阵响亮的警报突然响了起来——嗡、嗡、嗡！一开始我以为是我妈定了个闹钟，但接着我们就看到，那是一条山洪警报（flash flood warning）。几秒钟后，我的手表也震动起来，是同一条警报。
我们还是继续做我们的数学。不过呢，我喜欢反复核对天气，而不是看到第一条信息就全信——我觉得，在下结论之前多看几个来源，是件挺聪明的事。根据我们所在的具体位置，我判断我们这儿大概只会下大雨，而不会真的发洪水。果然，就在我们快做完的时候，又来了一条山洪警报，但警报上说它会在 8:15 前解除，而那会儿已经 7:53 了。所以我判断，这对我们来说短时间内不会有什么大问题。
折腾完这一切，我们就准备放松一下了。我们看了电影《天空之城（Castle in the Sky）》，然后我又在睡前听了会儿《波西·杰克逊（Percy Jackson）》。对了，还有一件好笑的事：我弟弟今天骂我是个”大胖笨蛋”，于是我掏出一张”反转卡（reverse card）”（就像 Uno 里那种），把这句话原封不动地”弹”回给了他！太经典了。这就是我今天的一天。
