Level Two Begins! Level 2 开始啦！

Today was a pretty exciting day. When I woke up, I remembered that a whole week had passed and it was finally time for level two — I’d been waiting for this! The very first thing we did was actually disassembling and then reassembling a gasoline engine from a golf cart. It was so cool, and I’ve honestly never done anything like that in my whole life. Taking apart a real engine and putting it back together piece by piece made me feel like a real mechanic.

It took us a long time to finish, so by the time we were done, it was already lunch. After we ate, we moved on to making our own name tags, which was really neat. We got to use a welding machine — I think it was the same kind they used in my grandpa’s shop, though I’m not totally sure.

The coolest thing was the safety gear. You have to wear one of those awesome welding masks, because the bright light from welding can actually hurt your eyes if you look at it directly. (It’s not from the sun — it’s the super bright arc of light from the weld itself.) And get this: the mask is solar-powered! That means if it ever runs out of battery, you can just leave it out in the sun to charge back up. I thought that was such a clever design.

All in all, I had a really fun day, and I hope I get to do it all over again. Level two is off to an amazing start!
