I Came for Strawberries, but Left with So Much More 本想摘草莓，没想到收获了一整天的惊喜

Today I went strawberry picking at a farm with my friend Enzo. I was really hoping we could pick strawberries, but they were all sold out, so we had to pick blackberries instead. At first I was a little let down, but it turned out to be one of the best days I’ve had in a while.

Here’s what surprised me — you can’t just go straight for the blackberries. First, you have to pick Brussels sprouts, because they were on the blackberry list. I figured we’d only get a small box for those, since I’d never eaten them and didn’t think they’d taste good. The last time I tried something like them at a friend’s house, it tasted horrible! They look exactly the same, so I had my doubts.

I was really hoping we’d get to use the big box for the blackberries, since blackberries are my absolute favorite fruit — but we didn’t get to. After we finished plucking the sprouts, we hopped on the tractor and rode it around about five minutes. It was basically a car, but with huge wheels in the back. If you sit in the back, you get to see everything! We passed apple trees, peach trees, orange trees, and lemon trees — it was like a tour of the whole farm.

When we finally got to pick the blackberries, they were so sweet that I couldn’t resist — I grabbed one for the road. I’ll admit I felt a little sad that we never got to use the big box, but in the end, I still got to pick blackberries, and that’s what really mattered. We also chose a few special items to bring home with us.

One thing I brought home was honey sticks. Normally Whole Foods has them, but they’ve been out of stock for a long time, so I had to buy them at the farm instead — I never even knew the farm sold them! They were really good, except for the sour cranberry one, which was way too sour for me. But overall, I loved them.

After that, Enzo and I played Nintendo Switch for a long time, including a bunch of Super Mario, and we watched some TV too. Then we ate both lunch and dinner at his house, and it was all really, really good. By the time we had to go home, I grabbed a drink for the road — and wow, his mom had made a drink that was so good I literally couldn’t stop drinking it.

I asked him how she made it, but he told me it was a family secret recipe, so I’ll just have to keep my hopes up for next time. I had such a fun time hanging out with Enzo today, and I really, really wish I could go back again soon.
