Today, I went to Soils Park with my solar panel to try it out in the real world. At first, it worked great and was charging just fine. But once the sun started going down, the light got weaker, so I had to move the panel to a higher spot to catch whatever sunlight was left.
What surprised me the most was this — even after the sun had gone down and it looked totally dark to my eyes, the panel was still charging, just really, really slowly. I guess there’s still a tiny bit of light out there that we humans can’t see, but the panel can pick up on it. That was honestly mind-blowing. Though I think part of the reason it didn’t charge much overall is that we didn’t get there early enough — next time I want to head out way sooner so I can get the full afternoon of sunlight.
While the panel was doing its thing, I went off and played with my friends. I swung on the swings really high — like, almost as high as the bar — and I zoomed down the slide a bunch of times. I also made friends with some of the neighborhood kids who were hanging out there, and we all played together. Time just flew by.
But as it got darker, it also got pretty chilly, so we ended up packing up and heading home. Even though we left because of the cold, I had such a good time today. I really hope I can come back to Soils Park again soon — maybe next time I’ll bring the solar panel a lot earlier and see how much it can charge in a full afternoon.
